The Building

Whitney Manor is a heritage limestone estate constructed in 1817 and recognized as one of the oldest surviving residential properties in the Kingston region. Built during Kingston’s early emergence as a military and commercial centre in Upper Canada, the estate reflects the balanced proportions and enduring craftsmanship associated with early English country house architecture.

Defined by hand cut limestone, cathedral height ceilings and original hand hewn timber beams, the property remains deeply connected to its setting along the St. Lawrence River.

Over the course of more than two centuries, the estate evolved through multiple periods of ownership, later becoming known as Sopwell Hall before adopting the Whitney Manor name in the 20th century.

Through careful preservation and adaptive reuse, Whitney Manor continues to maintain its architectural integrity while supporting contemporary residential and boutique hospitality use, positioning the property as a distinctive heritage landmark within one of Ontario’s most historically significant destinations.

Whitney Manor carries forward more than two centuries of Kingston history. Thoughtfully adapted for boutique hospitality, the estate remains a distinctive example of historic Ontario architecture meeting contemporary use.
